Senza titolo-1
At the beginning of my volunteer work with children and young people from different  cultures, I faced a language barrier. However, thanks to regular Italian lessons and daily  interactions in an international environment, I gradually overcame this challenge. This work  required openness, understanding, and sensitivity to cultural differences, which taught me to  adapt my communication methods to the individual needs of each child. Participating in  educational projects, workshops, and integration activities allowed me to develop interpersonal  skills and foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. Through daily conversations,  teamwork in international groups, and collaborative problem-solving, I significantly enhanced my  communication skills. I not only became more proficient in multiple languages but also gained a  deeper understanding of the cultural context that shapes how emotions and needs are  expressed. These diverse experiences enriched my abilities in intercultural mediation, teamwork,  and adaptability to new challenges. Today, I see those initial difficulties as a valuable part of my  personal and professional growth. They taught me that openness to change, perseverance, and  a willingness to learn are essential when working in an international environment.
Personal, social and learning to learn competence Participation in volunteering with  children and young people has been an incredibly valuable experience that allowed me to  develop both personal and social competences. Working in a diverse environment taught me  effective time management, organizing my own learning, and handling tasks efficiently, which  were key in carrying out daily activities and projects. Collaborating with individuals from different  cultural backgrounds helped me strengthen my teamwork skills, resolve conflicts constructively,  and build positive relationships based on mutual respect and empathy. The openness of the  children, their natural need for closeness, and daily interactions allowed me to better understand  the importance of emotional support and creating a sense of belonging. Supporting children in  acquiring new skills, assisting them with homework, and organizing artistic and sensory activities  gave me the opportunity to adapt to diverse needs and situations. Participation in music  workshops and educational laboratories with young people taught me flexibility in learning and  teamwork, as well as how to foster creativity in problem-solving. My involvement in cultural  projects, initiatives against violence and social exclusion, and participation in events such as  Renouvellement Urbain de Pantin allowed me to better understand the complexity of human  relationships and the importance of active civic engagement in social life. Through these  experiences, I learned to reflect on my own development, identify my strengths, and recognize  areas for further improvement. I enhanced my resilience, developed the ability to cope with  uncertainty, and cultivated empathy, which enriched me both personally and as a member of the  community.

Working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds has allowed me to develop  key citizenship competences, based on an understanding of democratic principles, human  rights, social inclusion, and the importance of global challenges such as sustainability. Active  participation in educational projects, community initiatives, and activities promoting equality and  inclusion enabled me to engage more fully in civic and social life. Collaborating with immigrants  and their children gave me the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective, raising  my awareness of issues related to social exclusion, cultural and language barriers, and  adaptation difficulties. Understanding their daily struggles taught me empathy, solidarity, and  social responsibility. Through these experiences, I realized the importance of building a society  founded on values of equality, mutual respect, and active participation.
My efforts focused on supporting integration, promoting intercultural dialogue, and  fostering civic attitudes that encourage cooperation and sustainable development both locally  and globally.
Angelika, ESC Polonia.
